Day 16 started early again. Planning on 26.8 km or 16.7 miles today.
Today, there will be long stretches of path, not a lot of villages or towns. As Al and I was leaving, Al's blisters prevented him from continuing. He told me to go on and he went back to the albergue.
Entered a small village Caldadilla de la Cueza, small but beautiful. Most people as I mentioned earlier grew gardens when they could, and a lot always had flowers even in small houses. Well, I said I left Al for dead back in Carrion de los Condes, well, the old tough bird caught up with me a couple of hours down the trail! Can't keep a good man down!
Walked another 9.7 km to Terradillos de Templarios, as we got to the albergue we wanted to stay (Jacques de Molay), there was a long line. It was hot standing in line, and as we got to the office, they looked at Al and me and said we have one bed left. Al, offered it to me, and I declined and he and I decided to go somewhere else. Outside, some were talking about a new albergue we had passed about 2 km back. We grabbed our gear and started walking back. We cut across a large open field and saw a man and a woman walking across the field on the other side of a large ditch. We yelled at each other and met at the ditch. We all four walked on to the new Albergue Los Templaros. These people were Peter and Nuella from Ireland. They were not together, just had walked together some. We got to the albergue and it was really new, the price was 7 Euros and Al and I got in a room with 4 beds, then our room mates turned out to be the two young men with the guitar in Hontanas! The albergue had a restaurant and served a very good meal for 7 Euros.
After dinner, we all sat on the patio, with people from the US, Ireland, Sweden, Holland and had a world summit! lol We went against all good advice and talked about politics. It was very informative to learn that in their opinions, that their politicians were crooked and in it for themselves and the money. People are people regardless!!!!
Today's total was as planned, 26.8 km or 16.7 miles give or take a few km for backtracking.
